INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS
The Department of Political Science seeks candidates for a 9-month academic
year tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning
August 16, 2007. Candidates should have a strong theoretically-guided commitment
to research and teaching related to the comparative or international politics
of contemporary Islam. This position is one of several positions created
to support Islamic Studies at Michigan State University. A successful candidate
will be expected to collaborate with campus colleagues to develop and implement
this program.

THE GLOBAL URBAN STUDIES PROGRAM
at Michigan State University invites applications for up to three tenure track positions at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, beginning fall, 2007. To meet its education and research missions, the GUSP is seeking faculty who bring particular methodological skills and approaches to the study of the political, spatial, cultural, and economic processes and issues in urban areas across the US and the world and in exploring global processes that impact and unite urban areas. The desired methodological areas are:
- Qualitative research methods encompassing both traditional case studies but also more quantitative approaches such as content analysis and q-sort techniques.
- Geographic information systems (GIS) methodologies used analytically to address substantive policy issues or theoretically to understand urban systems.
- Quantitative analysis including modeling, simultaneous equations, econometrics, and the like.
A comparative urban agenda is desirable and international interests in NAFTA countries, Eastern Europe, or the Far East are particularly desirable.
The Global Urban Studies Program is an interdisciplinary
program in the College of Social Science supporting and specializing in
urban research and offering a PhD specialization in combination with a disciplinary
PhD. As the initial faculty hires in this new program, successful applicants
will have the opportunity to be part of defining a premier program widely
recognized for fostering innovative approaches to education and research
on urban and global urban issues. These positions will be tenure track in
the disciplinary departments appropriate to the credentials of successful
candidates; faculty will meet the tenure and promotion standards of their
disciplinary department, with input from the GUSP. More information on the
